The Friends of the San Diego Public Library are pleased to introduce the One City, One Mission Fund. One City, One Mission was created to enable chapters with surplus funds to share with chapters that are financially limited in order to more equitably serve the city and patrons of the San Diego Public Library System.
One City, One Mission funds are intended for programs and materials that directly serve the public. That is, additional resources for the LIBRARY BRANCHES (rather than the FRIENDS CHAPTERS) when city funds or Matching Funds are insufficient. By contrast, the ET Perry Grant was created to help branches with organizational changes and membership development.
Contributing to the One City, One Mission is voluntary. Contributing chapters should have a safe reserve of two years of working capital. If contributed funds are not used within the fiscal year, they will be returned to contributing chapters proportionally — unless the chapter requests that their funds be retained.
Requesting funds from One City, One Mission is straightforward using the form on the FSDPL website. If a chapter requests money but spends less than requested within six months, the difference should be returned to Corporate FSDPL. There is no penalty or future withholding when amounts requested go unspent. Chapters remain in good standing. Upon approval by the FSDPL Board, funds will be released from the One City, One Mission-dedicated bank account.
